Prolong the service lift and reliability with these tips
In the construction and earth moving industry, track loaders are in high demand. Each of these loaders makes use of rubber tracks and if you want to cut back on the cost of expensive replacements all too often, you’ll need to care for and maintain your rubber tracks in order to extend their lifespan. You might not be aware of it, but you can decrease your operating costs exponentially by keeping your rubber tracks on your track loaders and other equipment clean, and by inspecting and maintaining tension regularly.
Reducing wear and tear on your rubber tracks is absolutely possible. You just have to be vigilant and meticulous. Side wear of your rubber tracks, which presents itself as wear and tear on the guide/drive lugs, can lead to the rubber chunking off in pieces. These pieces will eventually tear off and expose the internal cables to potential damage. This type of negligence can cause irreparable damage. Below are a few ways in which you can reduce such wear on your rubber tracks and avoid expensive and risky damage.
• Avoid cutting or harsh environments – your loader using rubber tracks is not suited to working environments where sharp rocks, cutting debris and steel are present. These types of working environments are best worked in with track loaders using steel tracks.
• Use 3-point turns – when turning your track loader, avoid using it like a skid steer. The track is more expensive and wears more easily than tyres, so take care to reduce side wear as much as possible, especially when turning around on a hard surface. 3-point turns will eliminate some of the side wear stress.
• Clean the tracks regularly – it is recommended that you pressure wash the track loader at the end of each working day. This reduces friction that is often experienced with debris. It’s also easier to spot excess wear and flat spotting when the track is clean, which brings us to our last point.
• Pay immediate attention to repairs – if you find a problem, fix it immediately. Oil leaks are often left unattended. Inspect the rollers, hoses and travel motors regularly, and make sure that these are repaired as soon as a problem presents itself.
